The World Game, also known as Sandplay, is a tool for children to play and create freely. Children are given a box of sand and free access to unusual and appealing objects. Music, flowering gardens, paintings, as well as the presence of the quiet observant facilitator contributes to creating a concentrated atmosphere in which the child can tell his story or express her dreams. Children are invited to be true to themselves in a natural environment.
The retreat offers one-on-one sessions for a child, along with the facilitator. They may or may not be accompanied by a parent. The retreat can happen in different ways: accompanied by music or not, interacting or in silence. Children are invited to create a world of beauty and harmony and can take this experience with them wherever they go.
The retreat session is open to children from the ages of 3 and upward. There are no requirements except a respect of the objects and the environment. Children can also opt for multiple sessions, in which they can further explore and expand their worlds. In some cases, it can also lead to ‘World Games’ in nature.
World Game is an activity that gives children the opportunity to creatively explore their thoughts, feelings, and imagination in an effort "to know oneself", a core principle of learning.. The arrangement of a few figurines - ranging from dragons and mermaids to farmhouses and windmills - turns a sand box into a scene where the child can explore and express his/her inner worlds and dreams, play and make stories. This educational tool has been used in Auroville since the late 1960s.
This individual retreat is priced at Rs. 2500. Additional sessions can be scheduled after the first session.
