• Career Calling

    Choose your Path

Security, power and status continue to be the main drivers for career choices today, both for the urban and the rural populace. The rural youth experience not only an overwhelming pressure to join the rat race to keep up with the expectations of peers and parents, but also the demands of a competitive global job market.

As a result, they opt for career paths that are often not in harmony with their strengths and interests, resulting in stress and a lack of wellbeing. This is our special retreat for the rural youth, to help them in making career decisions under the guidance of national and international experts. We are fundraising for this program, and you can help us make a difference. Read on for more details.

This Retreat gives the rural youth a hitherto non-existent opportunity to get exposed to, and be inspired by the vast body of experiential knowledge that Auroville has gathered in various professional areas.

It will introduce students to different exercises and principles that will help them find their true calling, helping them design how to put their objectives into practice and how to deal positively with the difficulties that may come their way.

Confucius once said “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Career Calling aspires for the rural youth to reach their full potential, by shifting the way they make their career choices, from those taken under pressure from family and peers to those based on their core values.

The program will expose the youth to different fields and allow them to interact with experts in counselling and workshop environments. The following domains are envisioned: Sustainable Sciences, Farming, Art, Creativity, Theatre, Drama, Music, Body Work, and Healing. Each domain will have two components: A workshop session with a hands-on activity and an interactive session with the expert.

This will take place in Auroville, a place of unending education and an experiment in human unity. Auroville has won international acclaim for its efforts in social and environmental sustainability, and has developed innovative techniques in bodywork & healing.

Auroville is an international community with over 2000 people from around 50 different countries. Located 8km from Pondicherry, 3 hours drive from Chennai city/airport (150km) along the scenic East Coast Road (ECR) and 8 hours by an AC sleeper bus from Bangalore (350km).
